Boat Trips

Albion is a national treasure – built specifically as a sailing trading barge for the Broads, she is now over 125 years old and a member of the Historic Fleet under the auspices of National Historic Ships. She is made from oak, about 60ft long and 15ft wide with a 50ft mast and carried 40 tons of cargo propelled by her vast black sail. As she is original she does not have an engine, but has a small tender that pushes her when she is not able to sail.

Albion now takes out up to 12 passengers for day, or half day trips on the broads. Albion comes with a volunteer crew to sail her and ensure your safety. However there are opportunities to get involved in sailing her for any passengers who wish to.

Albion is as original as she can be and so modern facilities are minimal. Down below in the original cargo hold there is a gas cooker and a large refectory table with benches. There are bunks for people chartering overnight and an electric toilet. She is equipped with cutlery and crockery. Most people, on day charter, bring a picnic – we can recommend local suppliers – but we can also sail to riverside pubs.
