If you’re glad to see the back of January then you aren’t alone! February has finally come around, bringing along with it more daylight, (slightly) better weather and the promise of spring just around the corner. Why not celebrate by getting yourself to one of the fantastic events taking place in the Broads this month?

Join mascot bear on the Bure Valley Railway (10 - 18 February)

Bring a teddy to the Bure Valley railway

The Bure Valley Railway opens its carriage doors for the first time in 2018 for a special Teddy Bear Express event during the half-term week, complete with mascot bear! Up to two children can go free with every fare paying adult (£13.50). The line stretches from Aylsham to Wroxham, offering a great opportunity to make a proper day out of your trip. Bringing a teddy bear is strongly encouraged!

Witness the spectacle of overwintering birds at Breydon (9 February and 24 February)

Breydon Water near Great Yarmouth is one of the country’s top estuaries for overwintering geese and other waterfowl. The RSPB’s Breydon Boat Trips offer a truly unique opportunity to get up close and personal with one of Norfolk’s true nature spectacles. Trips last between two and three hours and are weather dependent.

Marvel at the stars at Fairhaven Garden (10 February)

Join the Norwich Astronomical Society at Fairhaven Gardens

Join the friendly experts from Norwich Astronomical Society in an evening of telescopes, talks and teas at Fairhaven Garden. You’ll discover how to identify the stars in the sky and have the chance to learn from Mark Thompson (BBC Stargazing Live) as he gives an interesting talk on the ‘The four biggest questions about the universe’.

£3.50 per adult, £2.50 per child. Booking encouraged (there are limited spaces available on the night).

Take the kids on a free boat trip with Broads Tours (11 - 17 February)

If you’re looking after the kids you won’t want to miss out on this fantastic offer from Broads Tours - during half-term they are offering two free child rides per adult on their boat trips. You’ll be able to sit back and enjoy the view whilst a knowledgeable skipper takes you along the waterways of the magical Broads National Park, pointing out local wildlife and other points of interest along the way.

Go behind closed doors at Hoveton Hall (14 February)

Invitation to View events allow visitors to discover private houses and other places which aren’t usually open to the public. On 14 February you can explore the magnificent interiors of Hoveton Hall and its beautiful gardens, including a walk to revel in the drifts of seasonal snowdrops. Price includes a light lunch.

Feed the birds with Norfolk Wildlife Trust (16 February)

We all love feeding garden birds, but have you ever made your own food to give to your feathered friends? And no, we don’t mean leftovers from the night before! Head to Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s Hickling Broad reserve on 16 February for an afternoon where you will learn how to make some healthy treats and then take them home to stock up the bird feeders.

£3.50 non-members, £3 members. Booking required.
